Stair Lifts For Handicapped and For Disabled

As you age, you may experience extreme disabling stress on your knees. This becomes a huge problem when you climb or go down the stairs. Stairlifts are for anyone with knees problems or other limited mobility problems. Stairlifts for handicapped persons makes it easier and safer for them to move around their floors. Here are some things for you to consider before making a purchase.

There is a common misconception that stairlifts attach to the wall. Stairlifts have a rail which attaches to the treads of the stairs. This is for both straight stairlifts and curved stairlifts. All the weight of the chair lift is supported on the rail. So even if you have weak walls, you can install a stairlift.

The installation time for most straight stairlifts take about 2-3 hours, whereas curved lifts can take 5-6 hours. The manufacturing and measuring time for curved stairlifts is significantly longer than straight stairlifts and may take weeks just to get the proper customisations. This is important to take into consideration if you need a stairlift done in time.

If you choose a stairlift with a battery option, you can rest assured, that the lift will not confine you to a floor if the power ever goes out. The batteries tend to charge when the stairlifts are not in use.

Stairlifts are capable of supporting various weights ranging from 250 lbs to 400lbs, depending on your model.

Prices for straight stairlifts range from $2000 to $4000 and curved stairlifts are typically more than double the price, in the $5000 to $10000 range. Some curved customisations may even go into the $15000 range. If these prices are too high for you, there are used and rental stairlifts that have payments on a monthly basis.
They tend to require more servicing because of their former use.

Programs like Medicare will not pay for stairlifts because it is a home modification. However, your private insurance or other government programs like Medicaid may pay for some of the costs. The vendors have to agree to accept these programs. If you are without insurance, there are many loans and financing offers from stairlift dealers that are willing to work with you.

Decreased mobility in your older age or having a handicap should not be something to fear. No longer do people have to leave their homes because they are unable to reach their bedrooms. They will not have to worry about the dangers in climbing stairs. Stairlifts can provide them with the comfort and independence they seek.
